Mestalla brimming with emotions running high
Relive the emotional events that took place in the run-up to Valencia CF-Real Betis to pay tribute to the victims and those affected by the tragic flash floods
Valencia CF lost to FC Barcelona (1-2) in the match of Day 1 of LALIGA EA Sports played this Saturday at Mestalla. The defeat does not reflect the merits of our team, both in terms of play and chances, on a night in which the team took the lead through Hugo Duro and, after a very complete set-up, the visitors turned the score around with two goals from Lewandowski.
Valencia CF got off to a high-voltage start. Spurred on by the fans, who filled Mestalla with 46,673 spectators, the team came out onto the pitch intense and determined to take advantage of their strengths and try to get the first three points in LALIGA EA Sports from the start.
Hugo Duro made the first approach in the 11th minute with a poisoned cross that almost surprised Ter Stegen and then a play by Diego Lopez on the right flank made the Valencianistas rejoice. The Asturian reached the back line and put in the killer pass, but it was deflected for a corner.
The corner kick would be the third clear chance of danger for Valencia CF, and Hugo Duro headed a ball to the penalty spot that went just over the crossbar.
Valencia CF kept trying with determination. In the 21st minute, Ter Stegen took the ball out of the net. From a possible 0-2 lead, however, the match ended 1-1 after Lewandowski headed home a ball in the six-yard box.
After the break, the blaugranas took the lead on penalty with another goal by Lewandowski (1-2). Despite this, the debut in LALIGA EA Sports leaves positive notes to continue growing from a collective point of view and Valencia CF will look for their first win in the competition next Friday (19:00) against RC Celta.
